In the 80's, I visited the USSR now Russia on a Pan Am tour. We
flew to Moscow spent several days, visited several tourist areas
including the opportunity to attend a circus show, but was also allowed
to tour the city alone.
Our next stop was Odessa (now part of the Ukraine), where we had the
opportunity to attend an opera. We also did an evening boat cruise
on the Black Sea.
Our final stop was Leningrad now known as St.
Petersburg. They were experiencing "white nights" when the
sun never
sets. Once again we visited tourist areas together, but was also
allowed to tour the city alone.
